To you, on the eve of adulthood,
The smallest measure of space, the smallest measure of time, the smallest measure of “I,”
Broken down even further within a tranquility like that of a single scene in a movie.
As awareness and obliviousness meet at the junction of a forked road.
While an early autumn breeze caresses a footbridge nearby.
Let’s make our rendezvous there.
To you, on the eve of adulthood,
I won’t deny the risk of suicide. I won’t deny isolation.
I want to treat this peculiar thing we call “I” with due skepticism.
Society took circumstances and broken minds and used them for its foundation.
And I will never confuse immature self consciousness,
For this thing that we call “I.”
To you, on the eve of adulthood,
And as for the humiliation of those who come after,
A vow of retribution may not be pointless after all.
But it’s up to you to know if your dignity is worth the pain that will surely follow.
For the theft of money or things, not a single line of this song of mine shall steal even a one.
And that is what I call dignity.
