La Mare de Déu,
The Mother of God,
quan n'era xiqueta,
When she was a young girl,
anava a costura
Went to her dressmaking lessons
a apendre de lletra,
And to learn to read and write
amb son coixinet
With her little cushion
i la cistelleta.
And a little basket.
Dins el cistellet
Inside the little basket
duu quatre pometes,
She carries four little apples,
un bocí de pa,
A little piece of bread,
també avellanetes;
Some hazelnuts as well;
hi portava nous
There, she carried walnuts
i alguna panseta.
And a few raisins.
En feia fusets,
She made some thread,
en teixia beta,
She made some lace
i amb un coixinet
And, on a small cushion,
en feia punteta.
She would do some knitting.
Coixí n'era d'or;
The cushion was made out of gold;
les puntes, de seda.
She knitted silk threads.
Ella n'ensenyava
She would teach (how to sew)
a dues santetes:
Two little saintly maidens:
a Santa Susagna
Saint Susanna
i a Santa Pauleta.
And Saint Paula.
En un llibret d'or
And in a little gold book
prenia de lletra...
She took notes...
Els angels cantaven:
The angels were singing:
«Garindó, garindeta!».
Honeybug, honeybee!.
Estant retirada
And once she had retired
dins una cambreta,
To a little chamber,
l'àngel n'hi va entrar
The angel flew in
per la finestreta.
Through the little window.
—«Déu vos guard, Maria:
—God bless you, Mary:
de gràcia en sou plena!
You're full of Grace!
La nit de Nadal
On Christmas Night
parireu vós, Verge.
You shall give birth, oh Virgin.
En tindreu un noi
You shall have a boy
bonic com l'estrella!
As beautiful as a star!
Serà vostre fill,
Your Son shall be
serà fill de verge
The son of a virgin.
Per nom es dirà,
The name He will be given,
per nom s'anomena;
The name you shall call Him;
per nom, Salvador
His name (is) the Saviour
de cel i de terra!
Of both the earth and heaven!
Es dirà Jesús,
His name will be Jesus,
Rei de cel i terra!»
King of both the earth and the heavens!
