Aderyn Pur

English translation

Pure Bird

Aderyn pur a'r adain las, bydd i mi’n was dibryder,

Pure bird with the blue wing, be for me a carefree servant

O brysur brysia at y ferch lle rhoes i’m serch yn gynnar.

O hurriedly rush to the girl in whom I early placed my love.

Dos di ati, dywed wrthi, ’mod i’n wylo dŵr yr heli;

Go you to her, tell her, that I’m weeping the water of the ocean;

’Mod i’n irad am ei gwelad, ac o’i chariad yn ffaelu â cherdded,

That I’m grieving to see her, and from love of her unable to walk,

O Dduw faddeuo’r hardd ei llun am boeni dyn mor galed.

O God forgive the one fair of face for hurting a man so hard.

Pan o’wn i’n hoenus iawn fy hwyl, ddiwrnod gŵyl yn gwylio,

When I was very cheerful of temperament, looking out on a feast day,

Canfyddwn fenyw lana ’rioed, ar ysgafn droed yn rhodio.

I perceived the fairest woman ever, on light foot strolling.

Pan ei gwelais, syth mi sefais, yn fy nghalon mi feddyliais:

When I saw her, straight up I stood, in my heart I thought:

Dyma ddynas lana'r deyrnas, a'i gwên yn harddu pawb o'i chwmpas,

Here’s the fairest lady of the kingdom, and her smile adorning all those around her,

Ni fynswn gredu'r un dyn byw nad oedd hi rhyw angyles

I wouldn’t want to believe any man alive that she wasn’t some angel
